Josée Pedneault grew up in a small town near a big lake and lot of trees, in the region of the Saguenay Lac-St-Jean, in Quebec, Canada. She now lives and works in Montréal.
Josée received a Bachelor in Fine Arts and a certificate in Art History at the Université Laval in Quebec city. She also studied in United States, France and Greece. In 2005, she completed with honors an MFA in photography at Concordia University with artist Geneviève Cadieux as a thesis advisor. Her photographic and installation work has been shown in Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, Paris, Poland and Luxembourg. Josée’s work has been part of art festival such as Le Mois de la photo in Montreal, for which she was awarded the People's Choice Award, the 4th Manif d'art in Quebec city and the festival Jeune Création in Paris.
Since 2006, Josée completed various residency programs: CCA Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Poland (Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes, 2006), Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (CALQ, 2008), The William Blair Bruce European Fine Art Travel Scholarship (Sweden, 2008), and Sagamie in Alma (2009). She is currently on a four months residency program in Mexico with the support of the Quebec Arts Council, the Canada Arts Council, the Cirque du Soleil and the FONCA. Josée is represented by Galerie Lilian Rodriguez in Montréal.
In addition, Josée is co-founder and co-director of the gallery Les Territoires, a non-profit organization that aims to give opportunity to emerging artists and curators. She runs the gallery with a group of four ambitious young artists and art lovers.
