At the age of seventeen, a mark in the form of an island appeared on my back. Nævus is a search for this island through an investigation of the relationship between representation, cartography and chance.

Informed by geographical approaches, I search through databases of contemporary world atlases, satellite photographs, historical topographical maps, and combine these with my own personal archives to construct visual clues that point to possibility of the island’s location and its physical characteristics. In the process the project highlights borders as arbitrary representational structures.

Naevus examines my relationship to the world through an existential wandering - a search for a subject whose existence remains an uncertainty.

À l’âge de 17 ans, une tache à la forme d’une île est apparue sur mon dos.

Nævus prend la forme d’une quête géographique afin d’identifier le lieu s’apparentant le plus à cette forme et, ultimement, d’y entreprendre un voyage. Puisant dans les atlas, les cartes topographiques, les moteurs de recherche et les images satellites, je combine ces sources aux images de mes propres archives accumulant ainsi les indices m’informant sur les caractéristiques physiques et la localisation de cette île.

Nævus explore ma relation au monde à travers une errance existentielle, à la recherche d’un lieu dont l’existence même est incertaine.
