A wave only has meaning through an implicit understanding of motion, of aformal force, an interesting space of occupance, and a locus of conflict beneath the skin of the wave, a space of containment, stillness, weightlessness and silence. This notion of wave is a pertinent metaphor for visualizing the complex forces acting in the visual field and on the understanding of the physical. This body of work posits the self as fluid, engaged in complex and multiple exchanges of signification, images and symbols creating a dialogue in which words (images) are defined by each individual's own references.
This network of images cross connecting by their significations triggers a visceral activity. It asks for an active participation in the work rather than passive. The body then, becomes a liminal space, a territory of transition between interior and exterior.
In a moving discourse of symbol exchange, I have tried to have the images manifest certain transitional and ephemeral moments, where the work meditate on a tension in which the presence of a certain containment is caught at the instant before breaking apart. The wave, both tentative and forceful, lyrical yet meditative, pendulant but ever encroaching, is phenomenon and entity. Strangely, the wave finds meaning, and finds poetry, in the unity of its paradoxes.
