Spolia (2007-2008) is a project where contemporary photography comes together with quotes taken from Greek papyri from Hellenistic and Roman Egypt. Images and quotes form short poetic stories creating a dialogue between today's daily life images and long forgotten personal stories from the past.
Spolia is a project in collaboration with Katherine Blouin, Ph.D. in roman History, who chooses and translates ancient texts for the project.
Spolia is a term used to describe the re-use of earlier building material or decorative sculpture on new monuments, giving the artwork a new context.
